The small town of Duck, located between Kitty Hawk and Corolla, is one of the only incorporated towns on the Outer Banks and while steady year round, it is bustling with activity during the summer months. Most notably known for its reknowned bike/walking path, you can find vacationers biking, running, strolling, and even unicycling and skiing down the path that spans not only through town but to the north and south as well.
On the opposite side, the town has installed a gorgeous boardwalk that connects the southern part of the business district to the northern end, allowing you to stroll along the Albemarle Sound and sip, shop and dine with the incredible sunset views along the water. From independent coffeehouses, to local joints housed in gas stations and featured on Diner, Drive Ins, and Dives (http://www.cravingsobx.com/) to restaurants that boast their own spas (https://aquaobx.com/) – there is something for every palate and interest. Two recent additions include The Village Table and Tavern and the The Blue Point back deck that host live music in season to accompany the sunset views.
Duck also offers some of the best free entertainment along the Outer Banks. The Town Green and Amphitheater host weekly activities including tai chi/yoga, storytelling, hula hooping, concerts and magic shows. There are plenty of green spaces for young children to run around and explore including a shady playground with welcome benches for adults. The town also hosts the annual Jazz Festival in the fall, a 4th of July parade and a Yuletide celebration.
The research pier based in Northern Duck is a government owned pier that helps monitor our aquatic wildlife and environment, erosion and wave patterns and more. Look close and you may see the rover out in the waters patrolling the ocean floor and collecting vital geographic data.
